Greetings, seeker of knowledge,
I’m here to give you an insight into this musical act I call Blacksygil. My birth name is Kuzey Tekinalp, I’m a musician; composer and producer born in Bursa, Turkey in 1999.
My pursuit stems from the urge to understand the medium of sound as best as I can. This is driven by the problematization of communication; a theme I find inherent to the arts. Whether I’m working as a composer or a producer, my craft essentially is the realization of human intelligence in sound. Serving as a transmission agent, I make the intangible something that can be heard, felt and shared with others.
The first spark that awakened my creativity was back in high school, when I first fell in love with the darkness of metal music. Something about its aesthetics spoke to me for reasons beyond my comprehension. The heaviness, the relentlessness, the speed, combined with the dark and moody atmosphere, and an ever-present internal rage, all played a part in my fascination. This love eventually led me to the formal study of sound.
I earned my bachelor's in Composition and Music Technologies from Istanbul Bilgi University. This period of my life was defined by a shift towards experimentation. During my studies, I spent countless hours in the studio exploring sound; learning the intricacies of recording, mixing, and mastering. By recording as many instances and instruments as I could, I developed a deep familiarity with studio equipment and refined my practice.
Alongside my technical pursuits, I gained experience across multiple musical disciplines, including orchestration, arrangement and performance. Coinciding with my engagement with academic literature, I became fascinated by the intentionality behind sound design. Liberated from the physical capacities of traditional instruments, I realized electronics offered an infinite potential that was bounded only by my imagination. I thereupon found myself experimenting with synthesizers and eventually shifting my focus to composing electronic music.
In 2022, I co-founded the electro-acoustic music act known as “We Parade!”, with the vision of creating and providing musical playgrounds for interdisciplinary artworks. Since then, the band has released a live album featuring dancers Esma Akın and Aslı Akın; developed the site-specific performance CROSSING BORDERS in partnership with the Improvisation Dance Festival (Istanbul) and Sanpapié Dance Company (Milano); and is actively touring with the contemporary dance concert ‘How Now Becomes Then’ alongside dancers and choreographers Şiva Canbazoğlu and İlayda Evgin. This collaboration also led to the group’s first studio release, an album of the same name that serves as the definitive soundtrack to the stage performance.
In 2024, I moved to London and earned my Master’s degree in Creative Practice at Goldsmiths, University of London. Throughout 2025, I worked as an assistant recording engineer at Goldsmiths Music Studios and produced a studio album with composer, pianist and vocalist Tilda Gebhardt.
As of 2026, I am based in London, working as a freelance artist, taking on composition and production inquiries.
